Physician-Owned
TriMed is a medical professional liability insurance company that is owned exclusively by its physician policyholders.

Physicians applying to TriMed who present a history of claims will have their claims reviewed by the Peer Review panel.

The panel will make a determination regarding each claim in the applicant’s history to determine whether the physician adhered to the standard of care or did not meet the standard of care.

If the physician met the standard of care, he/she is acceptable for TriMed coverage with no surcharge. The panel may refer the physician for additional education via the TriState Patient Safety Foundation.

If the physician did NOT meet the standard of care:

• The physician may be denied coverage; or
• The physician may be accepted for coverage with a surcharge; and/or
• The physician may be referred for further education via the TriState Patient Safety Foundation www.tristatepatientsafetyfoundation.org .

Focus On Patient Safety
TriMed believes that the linchpin to its long-term success lies in a total commitment to patient safety and risk management. Accordingly, all individuals and groups insured by TriState are required to embrace this philosophy and agree to adopt the company's model patient safety and risk management program. TriMed's program emphasizes a high quality onsite process and protocol that supports excellence in patient safety and high patient satisfaction. TriMed strongly encourages its policyholders to use today's more sophisticated tools, including electronic medical records and the integration of risk factor evaluation in the clinical assessment and decision-making process.

TriState Patient Safety Foundation (TPSF)
To underscore its commitment to patient safety and risk management, a group of southwestern Ohio physicians led the formation of TPSF as the association-sponsor of TriMed and its professional liability insurance program. Each TriMed policyholder is required to join the TriState Patient Safety Foundation (TPSF) as a condition of obtaining insurance coverage from TriMed. This not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational foundation will collect statistical data on professional liability claims and conduct studies of patient safety issues facing today’s medical community. TPSF will seek grants and independent funding sources to assure it has the financial resources to properly serve Ohio medicine and the public it serves.

Risk management consultation services are provided by Patient Safety & Risk Solutions LLC (PSRS). The mission of PSRS ( www.psrisk.com ) is to assist its clients in creating high reliability systems which prevent errors that lead to malpractice claims.

Seasoned Managers
Developing and managing professional liability insurance companies is a demanding and complex undertaking. The team of individuals at TriState Insurance Managers LLC, the attorney-in-fact responsible for TriMed ' s creation and development, has an unblemished record of successfully developing doctor-owned professional liability insurance companies over the past 30 years. TriState is the 15th such company this experienced and capable group has launched. The credentials of this team of professional managers include such professional liability insurers as:

• Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Company (OMIC), a mutual risk retention group
• Illinois State Medical Insurance Exchange (ISMIE), a reciprocal insurance exchange

• Connecticut Medical Insurance Company (CMIC), a mutual insurer
• National Capitol Reciprocal Insurance Company (NCRIC), a reciprocal insurer

TriState Insurance Managers LLC provides the staff and day-to-day operational services to TriMed and its policyholders under a long-term management contract. TriMed itself has no staff. TriState Insurance Managers LLC reports to the TriMed Board of Governors for the performance of its duties and responsibilities.
