Mission and Purpose
The TriState Patient Safety Foundation (TPSF) was formed to promote the study and development of ways and means to improve patient safety in the tristate area. TPSF will develop and implement risk management process and protocol to assist physicians and their allied healthcare staffs with reducing medical errors. With the support of the TriState Medical Insurance Company Risk Retention Group (TriMed), TPSF will conduct studies on medical malpractice claims data and formulate methods that will reduce injuries to patients and mitigate, if not prevent, professional liability claims against physicians.

Organization
TPSF is a not-for-profit educational foundation governed by a board of directors who will consist of men and women from the insurance & healthcare industries who share a common belief in the importance of patient safety and medical error reduction in the tristate area. The board will include leaders from the healthcare industry including regional physicians who are convinced that reducing the incidence of patient accidents and injuries is the single most significant step towards alleviating the professional liability crisis for the specialty.

The Foundation is managed by a dedicated group of professionals who share a passion for patient safety and risk management. These individuals have spent a considerable part of their professional careers in healthcare, risk management and quality assurance. Their goal is to manage the activities of TPSF including the development of a data warehouse of medical statistics, the pursuit of studies focused on patient safety issues and the development of process, protocol and measurements that will make the office a safer place.

Membership
Individual physician members who are insured with TriMed are required to join the foundation. In addition, TPSF will solicit membership from all areas of healthcare including healthcare systems, hospitals, medical manufacturers, bio-tech firms, insurance companies, managed care organizations and individuals associated with such organizations.
